Cowbrook Estate sale, 1936
The 1936 auction brochure for the Cowbrook Estate, Sheffield Road, Glossop: particulars of sale, conditions and the hand-coloured estate plans, page by page.
In the summer of 1936 the Cowbrook Estate on Sheffield Road, Glossop, was put up for auction. This is the sale brochure, page by page: "Particulars of Sale, Stipulations and Plans of Freehold Houses, Farms and Lands at Cowbrook Estate", to be sold by Turner & Son at the Norfolk Arms Hotel, Glossop, on Monday 27 July 1936 at 7 p.m. prompt, by order of Herbert Jackson, Esq.
My grandfather, G. H. Wilson, obtained Lot 1 — Cowbrook House with 106 and 108 Sheffield Road. Some forty years later, in the late 1970s, my mother bought 3 Cowbrook Avenue (Lot 5). As it happens, my daughter's godfather is a direct descendant of the Jackson family.
The estate was offered in ten lots, among them Cowbrook House (Lot 1), the farm with Cowbrook Farm House (Lot 9) and White Cottage (Lot 10). The two hand-coloured plans at the back show every lot, with Hurst Mill, the mill pond and the golf links alongside. The form of agreement names the vendors as the Mulcott Belting Company Limited, of Dudley Hill, Bradford.
The special conditions of sale set out the rights of way along Cowbrook Avenue and across the farm yard.
